Destination: South Beach and The Vanderbilt Hotel

From the spark of its inception, Miami Beach has always been a city on the move. Inspired by the diversity of its people and colorful tropical surroundings, the city has managed to continuously recreate itself out of its own unforgotten glamour.

When the architectural revolution arrived in Miami Beach in the 1930s, it brought along with it a multi-hued streamline of Art Deco and Nautical Moderne architecture. Today, a new palette of confectionery colors through modern design balances the bold colors and clean lines indicative of the Art Deco movement.

Showcasing both history and modern architecture at its finest is The Setai, where Art Deco motif resides just beside an impressive 40-story all-glass tower. Built between 1936 and 1938, this Art Deco landmark was originally the famed Dempsey Vanderbilt Hotel. Built for 200 hotel rooms and the notable Pago Pago Bar & Restaurant, the Dempsey Vanderbilt Hotel ideally showcased the stylized vertical lines and materials prevalent on many of the now iconic buildings.

Despite the complete renovation for The Setai, the structure’s facade continues to stay true to its original identity while transcending the past by creating an environment that is truly distinctive and luxurious with an underlying Asian aesthetic.

Up & Coming:
Besides its stunning beachside location, Miami is a flourishing city where new things are constantly on the move and cultures are coming together, often in new and inspiring ways. From the opening of the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center and classical institutions such as the Florida Philharmonic, to modern theater works and contemporary art galleries, Miami’s cultural calendar is filled with a wealth of distinctive and artistic happenings this fall.

Here is a list of some noteworthy happenings to look out for upon your next visit to The Setai, South Beach.
